Just before covid struck, a friend reluctantly dragged me to a watercolour class, and I unexpectedly loved it! Then 3 years later I moved on to coloured pencils as I wanted to paint my own dogs but wanted something more detailed. I love the precision of coloured pencil, on drafting film particularly, as you can achieve almost photographic quality.
So far I've mostly drawn my own 3 whippets and other animals, mostly concentrating on local wildlife.
One of my first pieces of work was a portrait of an Amur leopard; my local zoo had been accepted onto the Amur leopard breeding programme and was trying to raise funds for a compound for the breeding pair so I thought I'll try drawing a leopard and if it's any good I'll give it to them to auction. Well I was pleased with the end result, gave it to the zoo and they auctioned it at their Charity Ball and it raised £350!
