Katy Choroszewska

I find inspiration in the plant forms and colours I see around me. I love the relaxed forms of the wild plants and weeds growing in hedgerows, woodlands and gardens combined with watery blue skies. While my pictures are usually of plants, they are about colour, texture, mood and feeling. I love the way that my work is seasonal, changing as different plants succeed each other, growing and altering throughout the year.
I trained as an embroiderer and my work is textile based, but has moved well beyond the confines of traditional embroidery. I draw with a pen directly onto cotton fabric, then float thin layers of acrylic paint over my drawing to build up a subtle palette of flowing colours with a soft focus. I stitch into my paintings to add detail and depth.
