Having retired from a career in architecture, John has rekindled his interest in painting, particularly the landscapes that reflect his love of nature and the countryside.

Living on Dartmoor and adjacent to the spectacular Lydford Gorge, it is not surprising that these subjects frequently provide the inspiration for his work.

Family holidays in North Wales and his admiration of the paintings of Keffyn Williams encouraged his use of the palette knife. Using heavy-bodied acrylic paint on canvas or board, the textural qualities of this technique lend themselves to the rugged landscapes he is drawn to.
