Gay Kent

Having studied at Falmouth College of Art, I obtained a 2:1 Fine Art degree in 2004. It was at Falmouth that I discovered my love of printmaking and after leaving Falmouth I continued my adventures into printmaking at the Tamar Print Workshop where I feel free to experiment and explore new techniques under the watchful eye of Mary Gillett. Usually starting with a somewhat random idea, often a photograph, the piece of work evolves and develops as I became involved in the magical printmaking processes, often etching and more recently reduction lino. The process involves decision making but also relies heavily on instinct and intuition and a certain amount of serendipity and chance. I work in a spontaneous way often with no fixed idea of the end result. I am inspired by colour and have recently discovered a love of collage, using fragments of original prints, pages from old books and vintage labels to create larger work.
