I live in Devon and have been drawing and painting all my life. It was only relatively recently that I have become obsessed with Chinese brush painting and wanted to try and capture the spirit of animals and the emotions of landscapes. Having been trained as an Illustrator before working as regional designer for the BBC, I had a lot of painting technique, but little spontaneity. Then I saw some very old Chinese scrolls at the Ashmoleoan Museum in Oxford, and my life changed ~ I wanted to learn how to paint with such freedom and capture the essence of the subject.
