I studied art at the Chelsea School of Art in the 1960s but, unable to raise a family on what I could earn as an artist, got 'a proper job'. Although I always carried pen and paints wherever I went, it was not until 2016 that I returned to painting full time. My work is signed 'Philo' in memory of my maternal grandfather who won a medal in the 1908 Olympics but was killed at the Somme, leading a company of Royal Fusiliers against a German machinegun post. I paint from nature and also create abstract works.
