This section outlines the frequently asked questions put to us. These questions come from a number of sources, such as customers, prospective customers, members, prospective members galleries and picture framers. Membership
If you become a member of Drawn to the Valley, you get your own online gallery page and an opportunity to sell your work in our online shop. You can get your work in a number of exhibitions each year and participate in our annual open studios / art trail events. In addition as a member you get access to artist drawing days, workshops and mentoring sessions, as well as networking and social activities. The drawing days are usually free of charge, where members can draw, paint and photograph their surroundings while meeting and catching up with other members. These are throughout the spring/summer months. There are also business skills workshops and various informal coffee mornings, free to all members. You will get regular communication through our newsletter where grant funding, commissions/residencies and national exhibition calls are published.
Membership is open to active creatives living and/or working in the Tamar Basin. Membership is £60.00 per annum. If you are interested in joining, please click on the 'Become a Member' button in the top right corner of the website.
There are two parts to the process:
1) Make a payment. Once the payment has been accepted, you will be sent an acknowledgement.
2) Complete the application form and submit it. Another acknowledgement will be sent that the completed form has been received.

Events
A drawing day is an event held at various places of interest such as the Garden House, Kelly House, Dartmoor Zoo, Dartmoor and National Trust properties. These events serve three purposes, 1) A chance to work en-plein air or go to an historic building to sketch and paint 2) An opportunity to interact and learn from fellow artists 3) A social event.
The drawing days are usually free however there maybe a reduced entry fee in some cases. This is always made clear when an event is announced.
Drawing days are also open to members guests or non members for a charge of £5.00
There are three main exhibitions a year that are open to members. In Spring Summer and Winter. These exhibitions are open to all members. There is an entrance fee and commission is taken on all sale except cards.
Sadly this year Covid-19 has had a devastating effect on Art galleries, Exhibition and Art and Craft Fairs.
Other exhibitions do take place and may vary from year to year. An example of this is the Harbour House exhibition.
There is a bi-annual exhibition held in London. The first held in 2019 was very successful. The next exhibition is due in 2021.
Open studios is a yearly event that
Yes you do. Open studios provides a lot of materials, marketing and publicity for the event. The package includes an entry in a glossy catalogue, online marketing, posters for distribution around local venues. Also you will provided with signs and arrows to direct the public to your venue. There is a cost associated to the event which depends on whether you require an entry on a third, half or full page. Previously the charge has started at around £80.
The Covid-19 situation meant that Open Studios was was cancelled for 2020. This year two groups of member artists have created two art trails which hopefully will take place in December depending on national events.
