Simon’s studio overlooks the River Tamar, the inspiration for some of his watercolours. Whilst serving in the Armed Forces he found time to get the brushes out; being a 'soldier and painter' worked with lots of subjects to hand. Deployments to trouble spots provided painting opportunities, but moving around made oil painting awkward, so sketching and painting in watercolour became the norm. His travels stimulated interest in light, colour, form and perspective. Now he’s often found painting around our countryside, towns and estuaries; over the past 5 years he has won awards at the Patchings Artist Magazine Exhibition and the Mall Galleries in London.
