I am a painter who loves using thick textural mark-making which is rather akin to sculpting. I work in both oils and acrylics using brush and palette knife. I spend time developing an idea and planning my approach in detail before starting the painting process. I simplify my subject as much as possible so that I can use a bold passionate application of paint. I prefer to work while everything remains wet (alla prima) to keep the painting as loose and spontaneous as possible. This gives life and freshness to the final work from the first broad expressive gestural marks to the concluding highlights.

I find joy in creation and my paintings are predominantly landscapes and portraits. The landscapes of sea, coast, skies, moors, and woodland are inspired by the wonderful vistas of South West England painted in my own unique style. My portraiture is generally from the client’s own photo(s) which adds an authenticity and a sense of partnership in the final portrait. Often by the end of the process it feels a though I know/understand something of the person even if I have not met them.
