I have been working with mixed media collage for many years. These are worked into with water-based media which I often embellish with machine & hand stitching. I am interested in creating multi layered, textured surfaces. I use a lot of recycled materials & am always on the lookout for new materials which can be included. I usually come home from walks with pockets stuffed with my latest finds.
Weathered, disintegrating buildings and interiors inspire my collages. I am interested in surfaces which show the passing of time & have a history. Worn peeling paint, torn layers of wallpaper, these evoke thoughts of all the lives that have shared the space before & left something of themselves behind. I enjoy layering materials to create juxtapositions of surface pattern and texture.
Since moving to Devon, the colours & textures of the moors & sea also inspire my ideas & are influencing my work.
